CAN
I PICK OUT MY OWN PUPPY?
Waiting
puppy buyers often ask if they will be able to pick out their own puppy. Since we know our puppies better than anyone,
the answer is most often “no”.
For a good
breeder, a litter of puppies is a 24/7 job!
We watch them grow and develop personalities, interact with each other
and with Mom on a daily basis. We watch
reactions to noises, other dogs, other people, other
environments. We see them at different
times of the day, in different situations, in different environments. Nobody knows each puppy’s temperament and
personality better than the person responsible for its care for the first 8-10
weeks of its life.
All of our
potential puppy buyers complete a buyer information sheet to help us get to know you and your family a little better. By
providing this information, you give us a good picture of your lifestyle and
what you are looking for in your puppy.
An active, young family is more likely to be looking for an outgoing,
energetic, rough and tumble puppy that can keep up with a busy lifestyle, young
children, or lots of travel, while an "empty nest" couple might be
looking for a more laid back, calmer puppy.
Puppy buyers
often visit a litter before the pups are ready to go and may see the puppies
for an hour or two. Short visits are
fun but not enough time for a true picture of each individual puppy’s
personality or to know which one would best fit into a household. Sometimes, depending on the time of day and
circumstances, the more high energy puppy in a litter might be tired, quietly
napping during a visit. A family looking for a quiet, more laid back puppy
might mistakenly think that this puppy is the right one for them. If allowed to
make the choice, they might very well choose to take that particular puppy home
only to find out a day or two later that the puppy they picked was not so laid
back after all! The same can be said for
the quiet, laid back puppy having a busy, high energy kind of day when a family
comes to visit. A family looking for a
pup that is full of energy to match a busy lifestyle, might choose this puppy
and later on find out that it might not have been the perfect match after
all. All puppies have “busy” days and
quiet days, good days and bad days - - - they’re puppies, after all!
It is very
important to us that each puppy is matched with the right family. We want our puppies to be happy and we want
YOU to enjoy your new puppy for many years to come. For this to happen, we need
to make the best match possible between puppy and new family, a process we take
VERY seriously. We want you to feel
that you have the perfect puppy. So please trust us to choose the puppy that
will best fit your family and bring you many years of joy and unadulterated
fun!
